What is Book-a-Charge?

We are developing a platform that provides full visibility, in real-time of the overall EV charging network. The platform will allow a motorist to reserve an EV charger, that has been identified as meeting the requirements for the proposed journey. For example, the platform will use criteria such as type of EV, starting charge, proposed route, scheduled waypoints etc. The platform will dynamically, using AI and machine learning, adjust the charger options, as and when any modifications to the journey occur, be they planned or unplanned. The platform will have payment functionality that will pre-charge the motorist for the reservation, with payment being taken on completion of the EV charge.

THE PROBLEM

Drivers of Electric Vehicles that require en-route charging, that is, non-local charging, in order to make an extended road journey, currently experience an emotion that has become known as ‘range anxiety’. The motorist planning an extended journey is unsure of being able to complete the journey, due to the uncertain EV charging network.

This uncertainty has been identified by groups such as the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), Charge UK and several public groups, such as the AA, and government agencies, as a barrier to the adoption of Electric Vehicles in the UK and globally.

The Association of Fleet Professionals (AFP) has voiced its concerns about a lack of charging infrastructure for van operators. Typical charging bays cannot accommodate a large van, with research from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) suggesting van operators were deferring their switch away from diesel to electric, because of charging infrastructure concerns.

Our Platform will provide the certainty that is currently lacking, and will therefore, contribute to an accelerated uptake of the purchase and rental of Electric Vehicles in the UK and throughout Europe.

OUR SOLUTION

The Bludot platform is advanced, in that it will provide real-time visibility of all EV chargers with all information required to enable a motorist to choose a charger or chargers, that will ‘guarantee’ the planned journey, removing any ‘range anxiety’ that is now a common emotion felt by those who own or rent Electric Vehicles.
